West With the Night
is a poetic tale of Ms. Markham's adventurous life in Africa. As a bush
pilot during the '30's, she carves avionic history by being the first person
to fly solo across the Atlantic Ocean flying east to west.
I have read this
book twice! Why? Because it is masterfully written. Don't
take my word for it. Listen to what Ernest Hemingway (who happened to
rub shoulders with Ms. Markham) had to say--
"...she has written so
well, and marvelously well,
that I was completely ashamed of myself as a
writer."
As I
was saying, Markham takes literature to a higher level. Her first hand
account with wild elephants, lions, and warthogs will make you wish you were
there (or not).
This book is funny, dangerous, melodic, peaceful, and tragic! Don't pass up
Markham's masterpiece!
~Happy Reading~
