The Inheritance
by Louisa May Alcott

Once again I enjoyed the monthly selection. It was refreshing to have a heroine with so much integrity and who was full of so much charity. Her character reminds of the need we all possess to be surrounded by people who love us and to be accepted by our friends and families. I couldn't believe the author was only 17 when she wrote this.     ~SaraSue

I wanted to like this book, really, I did, because I love Louisa May Alcott and I love the movie version of this book; but I have to admit it was too syrupy for me. Edith was such a paragon of virtue I found it impossible to relate to her or believe she could put up with everything she did without showing some negative emotion once in awhile. The story is sweet, but I much prefer the fire and imperfections Alcott added to her heroines in Little Women. It was definitely worth the read though.

I agree Lauri, the characters are less complex than a more classic Alcott novel, but worth the read knowing it came for a young Louisa makes it all worth it!  ~Caryn
