Christmas Traditions Religious

Away in the Manger - We have a little manger we made out of Popsicle sticks and purchased a little baby Jesus. Throughout the month of December every time we do a kind deed for someone else in the family we put a piece of hay in the manger and hopefully by Christmas the manger will be full and soft for baby Jesus. - Amber Lanier

Christmas Testimony -   A member of our ward shared her tradition with us. Each member of the family writes their testimony and on Christmas Eve they share them. Then they put them in a binder so they will always be able to look back and cherish them - Lauren Winick

Luke 2 - very Christmas Eve we settle down as a family and watch Luke 2. (It is the Church video about the birth of Christ. It can be purchased at any church book store) (Contributed by Christine Jensen).

Deliver Treats - We deliver treats to our neighbors, and make a goal to find 5 non-LDS families to deliver goodies to with a spiritual message attached, and/or deliver some to the elderly. (Contributed by Carol Blair)

Give to the Needy -  A great family tradition we do at Christmas time is to take our kids out and have them buy a gift each for a needy child

Christmas Eve Pageant - Put on a Christmas Eve Pageant, costumes and all, for family and friends. Use the verses from Luke 2 for the narrator.

Missionary Packages - Remember the missionaries that are out in the field, away from their families at Christmas. Send or deliver care packages to the missionaries who are serving in your ward, or who left from your ward.

Learning the True meaning First - The Sunday after Thanksgiving we begin our Christmas celebration by talking about the true meaning of Christmas. We watch ""Mr. Kruger's Christmas"" and then arrange our own Nativity scene. This is the first decoration we put up and it is the only one until the following Saturday when we put up the tree and the rest of the decorations. We think this tradition keeps the celebration of the Savior's birth central to the season. - Ann Powell

The 12 Days of Christmas with a Twist - We put a spin on the 12 days of Christmas giving. We buy a nativity set. We try to find one with a lot of pieces (12 or so) and we chose a family and secretly leave 1 piece per night on their door step. On Christmas eve we deliver the last piece (baby Jesus) in person! - Molly Tanuvasa

A Stocking for Jesus - Each Christmas we hang our stockings on the fireplace mantel, as a lot of families do. However, we also hang a stocking for Jesus. On Christmas Eve, we each think of something we can give of ourselves for the coming year that would be an appropriate gift for Jesus. Examples: daily personal prayer, writing in a journal daily, doing a good turn daily, more sincere scripture study, being kind to a family member. It has been a blessing in our home as these gifts have become daily habits and have in turn really been gifts to ourselves. - Julie Dixon
